NEWS & INFO - 6/10/03

The gray version of MpegDec 3.0 is now undergoing testing. If testing goes well, it should be released this weekend.

MpegDec 3.0 will be 68K and PowerMac native, although they will be available separately.

NEWS & INFO - 6/8/03

Version 3.0 features have been added to the gray version of MpegDec. The Skins version is temporarily on the backburner. The updated gray version should be available after some final touch-ups and testing.

NEWS & INFO - 6/6/03

MpegDec 3.0 development: The playlist window will have two panes. The first pane will have a list of currently loaded playlists. Selecting one of these entries will update the second pane to show the contents of the selected playlist. Playlists can be named, loaded, and saved by clicking on buttons below that pane. Songs in each playlist can be added, removed or rearranged with drag-and-drop.

Furthermore, there is also a "Save Set" option that saves all the currently loaded playlists in their current order to a set file. The Set file can just be dragged to the playlist window and the playlists in the set file will be loaded in their original saved order.

The ID3 info will be displayed in a separate, pop-up window. When open, the ID3 window will align itself with the bottom of the playlist window.

Options for Loop, Loop Playlist, and Random are now buttons that are selectable from the main window. Previously, they had only been available in the preferences window.

NEWS & INFO - 4/1/03

Development of MpegDec 3.0 has been moving along. Version 3.0 will feature a 2-window configuration (3-windows on PPC). A controls window will have all of the playback controls, volume, balance, and progress bar and time. A playlist window will have options for repeat and random functions. On PowerMacs there will be a third window for a graphic equalizer.

The playlist editor has been incorporated into the MpegDec playlist window. Now, playlists can be created, edited and saved from within MpegDec, without having to use a separate editor. Compatibility with previously saved playlists will be retained.

MpegDec 3.0 will also have a new look. The new appearance will be based upon Aqua, the user interface of Mac OS X. Additionally, MpegDec will be completely skinable. There has been discussion about offering skins for Aqua, Brushed Aluminum, and Gray (Platinum). Other skins are sure to follow.

NEWS & INFO - 1/14/03

First off... I'll stop getting everyone's hopes up by saying when the next release should be available. There has been alot of new features and functionality added to MpegDec, and it simply hasn't been ready for relase just yet. So instead of telling you when it's getting here, I'll just give you a sneak peak at the latest test version.

The progress bar allows instant access to any point in the song just by clicking on it.

There may be some performance improvements over what has previously been stated. For instance, on a Quadra 650 (66/33 MHz 68040) I have been able to play 44KHz, 128Kbps MP3s with Quality 2, Downsample by 2, and Mono Singlemix mode. It can play in stereo if I drop the Quality down to 1. Just don't expect to use the Mac for other things.

Below is a screenshot of what the new icons will look like.
