Thought & Ramblings:
As time goes by, I will be sharing bits and pieces of wisdom and insight on various topics - areas in which I have concerned myself. As you can see, this page is relatively light on content. I have much to learn - and when I do, I'll be sure to share it with the world. I'll also share random tidbits of interest.

Structures in New England are supposed to be built to last, and withstand harsh weather conditions for years, decades, or even centuries. Unfortunately this TNT Carport collapsed after only a few months.

Some folks, including myself, have experienced strange font-related issues on our Macs. Recently, two of my Macs have exhibited issues with Dashboard widgets displaying incorrect fonts. This is how I remedied the issue.

Guitar Amp Modelers with GarageBand on a Mac G3
GarageBand has some built-in guitar amplifiers that sound great on Macs with G4, G5 and Intel processors. However, amp modeling tends to be very processor intensive, and can bring some older computers to their knees. My Powerbook G3 "Pismo" has a 500MHz G3 processor, and will not allow the use of GarageBand 2's built-in amps in real-time. The effect could be applied after recording, but I prefer hearing the amplified guitar while I play. This is where third-party software helps out.

MP4 Player
After purchasing an MP4 Player (iPod Nano knock-off) on eBay, I discovered just why these items are so much cheaper than the real thing. Among my disappointments was the instruction manual which was translated quite poorly from Chinese to English. There were also several issues when using the MP4 player with my Mac. I have decided to write about my experience so that others can benefit.

Those Darned Neighbors Are At It Again
Apparently all of our yelling and screaming has gotten the neighbors a little concerned. Concerned enough to call the cops on us! We were just sitting down for a quiet dinner at the time, so the caller was kind enough to leave a message on the machine.

Support for Unsupported Mac Hardware
The internet has become a great resource for getting the most out of an old Macintosh. Software developers and hardware manufacturers alike provide patches, updates, demos and tech support articles on their corporate web sites. Discontinued products seldom receive the same attention.
A few people have created web sites supporting various obsolete technologies. Here, you will find some additional references.
